SSC Services for Education is a part of Crothall Support Services which provides environmental services for Hospitals, K-12 Schools, Colleges, Shopping Centers, Business & Industries. We provide customer focused support services. As specialists, we perform services including healthcare housekeeping, management in laundry processing, patient transportation, business facilities management and clinical engineering. JOB SUMMARY
This is a position that requires minimal supervision and physical labor associated with ground management. Supervise, oversee and coordinate all phases of landscape & grounds management including ornamental landscape, lawn, parking lot maintenance, snow / ice removal, equipment maintenance and repair and other tasks assigned by general manager. Creates, reviews, and assigns work orders to crews, develops and manages annual operating budget – handles all procurement within grounds management. Provide recommendation on employee evaluations, professional development and discipline. The grounds supervisor will in harmony with general manager and campus administration to assure quality and safety for all. Work expectation is 85% manual labor and 15% administrative.
Work closely with District Liaison and principles to ensure seamless communication.
Job Description:
- Implement schedules for the management of ornamental landscapes, lawns, parking lots, and grounds equipment. Make recommendations for enhancement to RVP Grounds.
- Develop and implement written annual business plan
- Develop and implement schedules for the management of grounds / lawn care that are associated with the school district complex.
- Implement inclement weather or natural disaster plans. This includes snow and ice removal, hurricane, tornado or flood occurrences.
- Implement Standard Operating Procedures for Grounds Management.
- Insure performance of all work in a safe manner for the employees and those exposed to the environment.
- Special function set up and takes down as directed by General Manager.
- Maintain records for all work and services performed including rigid records for pesticide applications.
- Maintain financial records of all expenditures within the department.
- Perform quality performance inspections routinely – develop action plans for any deficiencies and implement said plan. Maintain active records of all inspections / action plans and follow up actions correct deficiencies.
- Remain informed and current in grounds management functions and codes for local, state and federal governments – this may include light travel to ensure that proper training is received.
- Be a visionary and mentor in the development of new methods, procedures, and techniques in grounds management.
- Assist in developing a business plan and an annual budget for grounds management operation – submit to general manager.
- Ensure that campus / company policies, procedures and ethics are adhered to.
- Light building maintenance, boiler watch and other tasks as assigned.
- Endorse team concept across disciplines.
- Cleaning of parking garages.
- Perform other tasks as needed by the GM.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Minimum of a two year degree in Agriculture / Horticulture related field (Extensive experience can supersede this requirement).
- Must be able to read, write and clearly speak English.
- Must have or be able to obtain a commercial pesticide applicator license in the categories of Turf and Ornamentals within six months from date of hire.
- Must have the ability to operate grounds related equipment, drive a standard shift and have a valid driver’s license.
- Must have the ability to calibrated spreaders and sprayers.
- Good writtten (report writing) and oral communication (public speaking) skills.
- Computer skills specifically in; Word, Excel, Powerpoint or compatible programs.
- Ability to promote awareness to management programs.
- Athletic field/landscape construction - installation experience (desirable).
- Have or be able to demonstrate ability to obtain pesticide license within six months from hire in the following categories: core, turf, and ornamentals.
- Have the ability to operate grounds/lawn care management related equipment
- Must be willing to travel out of the region for brief periods of time and work alone unsupervised in unfamiliar environments.
- Ability to work unscheduled hours typically associated with managing grounds/lawn care management.
- References, three trade related and two personal.
- Other certifications that will enhance candidate, Certified Playground Safety inspector, Certified Turfgrass Professional, Certified Professional Grounds Manager, Certified Grounds Manager or other associated certifications.
