Job Description:


Foodbuy is the foodservice industry’s leading Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) focused on lowering purchasing and product costs for foodservice organizations.


The Senior Category Business Manager is responsible and accountable for the strategic development of their respective category strategy, oversight/management of category business plans, management and oversight of all personnel, and the delivery of category purchasing income for Foodbuy Committed Customers.


Due to tremendous growth within our organization and the need to support our business partners within the Hospitality, Healthcare and Foodservice channels, we currently have an opening for category development professionals with the following categories experience: Center of Plate-Local Seafood & Meat programs.


Key relationships will include Committed Customers, Strategic Suppliers, Member Development President, VP’s, Sr. Directors, Account Management Directors and Sr. Managers, Foodbuy Chairman, Business Needs VPs, Sourcing VP and Directors, Category Development VPs and Directors.


These positions are based in our Charlotte, NC office.


Responsibilities:



  • Ability to drive significant Revenue/Income respective to Category by supporting the needs of the Account Management Team and External Customers

  • Single point of contact for Account Management within respective category in order to manage multiple needs, requirements and customer/category plans within each respective client.

  • Assist in Sourcing and Category reviews to represent External Clients (Member Development Group).

  • Participate in “Strategic” supplier meetings with Category Development Team when available and/or necessary.

  • Conduit for Custom Sourcing needs and Contracting business needs within respective Category.

  • Attend Member Development Department Channel Meetings and Quarterly Reviews when necessary.

  • Support Market Basket Team and Category Management relating to addressing program coverage and expansion needs.

  • Work with Category Management on the establishment of Program Pricing and External Customer Revenue to accommodate customer needs.

  • Work with the Distribution Team to address stocking opportunities and needs.

  • Lead and Assist in developing [insert category] programs to include, Concept, Structure and Execution specific to Customer needs

  • Subject matter experts and broader category knowledge to help drive client business needs, projects, program expansion and proper member coverage.

  • Proactive positioning of product/category opportunities/penetration within current and future client business across Healthcare, Hospitality and Foodservice Channels.

  • Drive implementation efforts of new program content.

  • Assist in providing input for marketing, communication and promotional activities directed at Key Customers within each Channel through the Marketing Team.

  • Identify and develop program coverage gaps by channel and lead dialogue with manufacturers and or Category Development team leads.

  • Ability to develop new program offerings and essential program content when and as needed by Customers- respective to the category responsibility.

  • Handle Customer Service issues where and when appropriate.

  • Keep updated on all contracts within the [insert category] and well versed on competitive programs and changes within the supply base.


Qualifications



  • Minimum four year undergraduate degree required; MBA Preferred

  • Minimum of 7+ years of Foodservice Category Development experience with large regional and national Foodservice customers

  • 3+ years sales or account management experience driving growth within a related product line/category

  • Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.

  • Application of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

  • Experience of broader aspects of supply chain, as well as providing evidence of a broader business perspective such as balancing cost, value, risk & opportunity.

  • Evidence of an ability to work cross-functionally with colleagues in operations, finance, customer service.

  • Strong negotiation and relationship building experience at the most senior level into supplier organizations.

  • Proven track record of ability to influence in a cross functional organization including conflict resolution.

  • Must have a clear understanding of food service route to market, supply chain and has mastered route to market for key categories.

  • Evidence of an ability to provide strategic leadership to the function as well as contributing at the operational level.

  • Well developed people and change management skills which equip an individual to lead teams including cross matrix and cross cultural groups.

  • Excellent communicator and relationship builder.

  • Strong networking skills, ability to influence and get things done through informal as well as formal channels.

  • Proven experience in managing a P & L or budget, and deliver plan results.

  • Ability to operate at pace in an entrepreneurial environment.

  • Outstanding presentation skills and selling skills to sell in key programs.

  • Capacity to handle multiple changing agendas yet to stay in control of events.

  • High proficiency level with MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to travel 20% to 30% annually.
